What is the housing element and why does it matter?
Since 1969, all local governments (cities and counties) have been required to submit a housing element [plan] within their general plan to meet the housing needs of their residents every 8 years. General plans serve as the local government’s “blueprint” for how the city and/or county will grow and develop and include eight elements: land use, transportation, conservation, noise, open space, safety, environmental justice, and housing. The city of San Bernardino has yet to submit their 6th cycle plan that covers (2021-2029), which was due October 2021. Luckily, the city of San Bernardino recently brought on board new staff to ensure the housing element gets completed. What’s next?
Monday Dec 12, 2022 6-8PM at the New Hope Center there will be another presentation of the housing element presented by city staff.
